A friend recently challenged me to design a typeface for his typography site, www.tendollarfonts.com. I’v never done a typeface design before and to be honest, starting up seemed quite forced and uninspired.

I restarted quite few times over the last few weeks, but this week I’v had a bit of extra time so it’s been a bit of a focus over the last five days. I changed my stance and decided to design something that would work stronger as a set of drop caps inspired by my love for geometric forms and facetted planes.

This is what I have come up with. It’s called Skarn. That could change. This is the basic version where the forms will remain in this line weight. I plan to push it further by using colour and line to illustrate the facets more, creating a more illustrated 3D feeling.

Let me know what you think. It’s been fun.
